Throughout his long history with Orascom, chief executive officer Osama Bishai has been instrumental in the development of the Cairo-headquartered contractor.
As the firm continues its investment in infrastructure in Egypt, Orascom is committed to community engagement and enhancing education in the communities it serves. The company’s Onsi Sawiris Scholarship Programme sponsors the undergraduate and graduate studies of Egyptian students at leading higher education institutions in the US, on the condition that the students return to Egypt upon the completion of their programmes, in order to contribute to the country’s economic development for a minimum of two years.
Under Bishai’s leadership, Orascom has been involved with several key projects in the past 12 months, including the Burullus Power Plant 4,800 MW power-to-grid project, Ain Sukhna Product Hub project, and Cairo Airport runway upgrade. The company was also employed as a sub-contractor on the Ain El Kebira Cement Plant development in Algeria.
Orascom’s ongoing portfolio includes transportation infrastructure projects in Egypt, such as the Cairo metro; power projects, both within Egypt and in the Middle East; work on the new administrative capital project located45km east of Cairo, including on the opera house and cultural centre, cathedral, and infrastructure projects; Suez Canal tunnels; and the completion of Expo 2020 Dubai infrastructure work undertaken in a joint venture with Besix.
